Anyone on the same local network can access the emonPi web dashboard and MQTT broker using published default credentials, allowing unauthorized users to observe energy telemetry and modify system configurations. If SSH access is enabled or the initial setup Wi-Fi access point is active, unauthorized actors can obtain complete shell control over the Raspberry Pi using default login passwords. Before placing this device on any network, instructors must change all default credentials for Emoncms, SSH, MQTT, and Wi-Fi, verify that the unit runs a currently supported operating system release rather than legacy Debian Bullseye, and isolate the system on a restricted network segment.
